Debra and James Doyle had always imagined Florida as part of their future. Living in Baltimore, Maryland, they had visited many times over the years, drawn to the warm weather and vibrant lifestyle. As they planned for retirement, they set out to find a new home that would not only complement their social lifestyle but also offer new experiences to enjoy. Their search ultimately led them to Sarasota, where everything seemed to fall into place. Now, as they prepare to settle into their new Sarasota condo, they reflect on what made this community ideal for their next chapter.
The Doyles knew it was time to trade Maryland’s cold winters for Florida’s warmth and sunshine. Yet, deciding exactly where in Florida to settle took some time. They explored different options across the West Coast, East Coast, and even central Florida. “We looked at a number of places around Florida before settling on Sarasota,” said James. “We loved that while Sarasota is a city, it’s not a big city. With its waterways, it feels more like a town, yet it has everything—cultural events, plays, the symphony, beaches, nightlife, and great restaurants.”
Once they decided on Sarasota, James and Debra already had their sights set on the neighborhood they wanted to call home. Just off Downtown Sarasota, Golden Gate Point is a 22-acre peninsula between Sarasota Bay and the Ringling Bridge. “We always said that if we chose Sarasota, we’d want to live on Golden Gate Point,” shared Debra. “When we used to vacation here, we’d stay downtown and walk over the bridge and around Golden Gate. It’s such a rare community on its own little island. You get so many perspectives and opportunities, all while being within walking distance of downtown. We can enjoy everything we love, yet still retreat to this quiet enclave.”
On Golden Gate Point, the Doyles found their match at Peninsula Sarasota. Their new Sarasota condo features floor-to-ceiling windows and a spacious private terrace with views of Sarasota Bay and downtown. For James, what really stood out about Peninsula was its intimate scale. “There are only 23 residences total across the two buildings,” shared James. “There’s a nice separation between the homes – one per floor in one tower and two in the other. No shared walls, private elevators, and, of course, the contemporary design that comes with new construction.”
The Doyles also highlighted how working with the Peninsula Sarasota team made the process feel personal as if they were creating a custom home. Having chosen their residence early in the pre-construction phase, they were actively involved in the building process. “It’s rare to find a custom build in the Sarasota condo market,” Debra shared. “Sam Gault, the owner, and everyone at Blu Interiors gave us the chance to choose every detail. They even gave us a final walkthrough before framing was finalized, allowing us to move walls if we wanted to. The entire concept was about making it our own as much as possible in a condo setting.”
In addition to their home, Peninsula Sarasota offers a variety of amenities that embrace the Doyle’s social lifestyle. The swimming pool and sun deck provide the perfect setting for daytime leisure, while the Rooftop Residents’ Lounge is an ideal space for evening gatherings with friends and neighbors. With expansive common areas, a wine storage room, a fitness center, and more, there’s something for everyone.
“Community starts from within, and the amenities help build that within the building,” Debra explained. “The rooftop lounge is a place where we can all celebrate together, and the pool and other spaces are perfect for connecting. We met some of our new neighbors at the topping-off party, and it was such a pleasure. We’re already calling them soon-to-be close friends. That’s what Sarasota is all about—our social circle is getting bigger and bigger every day. We came here for an active, engaging lifestyle, and Peninsula Sarasota offers just that. We’re ecstatic to be here and can’t wait to move in.”
Peninsula Sarasota’s residences are set to be completed in 2025. With the remaining condos selling swiftly, the opportunity is fleeting to savor a centrally located yet secluded lifestyle.
